Stage 1. User Research

Extensive research was conducted involving 30 rehabilitation clinic patients and 10 healthcare professionals through online surveys, in-depth interviews, and focus groups. This comprehensive research phase revealed the critical need for continuous post-treatment support and effective clinical management tools. Based on these insights, four detailed user personas were developed—two for the mobile app and two for the management platform—representing SerenityMate's target audience.

Stage 2. Ideation & Conceptualization

Multiple user journey scenarios were mapped out to visualize interactions with the proposed features. This stage included the complete design of the branding, from the logo to the naming, encapsulating the essence of SerenityMate.

Stage 3. Design Execution

Wireframing: Over 70 wireframes were developed for various app screens, meticulously designing each element of the user interface to ensure intuitive navigation and seamless interaction. These wireframes formed the structural basis of the app, focusing on easy access to recovery tools and clinical management features.

UI Design: A visually appealing and accessible user interface was designed, selecting a soothing color palette and clear typography to enhance usability and promote a calm user experience. The design included detailed questionnaires to detect areas of opportunity and action plans for users to work on these identified areas.

Prototyping: Figma was utilized to create interactive prototypes, allowing for realistic user interactions. Live prototype demonstrations were conducted to provide a tangible sense of the app’s functionality and user experience.

Stage 4. User Testing & Iterations

A series of user testing sessions were organized, utilizing both qualitative and quantitative methods to evaluate the app's usability and effectiveness in providing continuous post-treatment support. Feedback was analyzed to identify patterns and areas for improvement, leading to several design iterations that enhanced user engagement and satisfaction.

Stage 5. Final Presentation and Documentation

An in-depth presentation and comprehensive documentation were prepared, detailing the research findings, design rationale, user testing outcomes, and the iterative design process. The presentation also included a business plan outlining potential return on investment (ROI) scenarios, demonstrating how SerenityMate could achieve financial sustainability. Highlighted the app's potential to revolutionize rehabilitation support by offering effective clinical management tools and continuous post-treatment care.

Reflections

The final project for my Master's in UX/UI, SerenityMate, addresses the critical issue of post-treatment relapses in rehabilitation patients. This innovative tool, combining a mobile app and a management platform for clinics, enhances internal management and extends continuous support to individuals in addiction recovery. The project underscored the importance of thorough user research and iterative design in meeting user needs. It honed my skills in collaboration, problem-solving, and effective communication, setting a solid foundation for my future in UX/UI design. SerenityMate exemplifies the impact of well-designed digital tools on real-world issues, particularly addiction recovery.
